Waikato has more scholarships per student than any other university in New Zealand. There are scholarships and grants for many student groups, including secondary school leavers, Maori students and adult students, and in many subject areas.

Entrance

Bachelor of Engineering Fees Scholarship

The Bachelor of Engineering Fees Scholarships is open to applicants who will enrol at the University of Waikato for the first time. Applicants should be in the first full-time year of a Bachelor of Engineering degree in the Faculty of Science & Engineering or in the Faculty of Computing and Mathematical Sciences.

IPENZ Waikato / BOP Branch Scholarship

This scholarship was established in 2003 by the IPENZ Waikato / Bay of Plenty Branch. The scholarship is open to applicants who enroll full-time at The University of Waikato in their first year of study towards a Bachelor of Engineering (BE) degree in the Faculty of Science & Engineering or the Faculty of Computing & Mathematical Sciences.

Science Admission Fees Scholarship

This Scholarship is open to applicants who will enrol at the University of Waikato for the first time. Applicants should be in the first full-time year of a BSc or BSc(Tech) degree in the Faculty of Science & Engineering.

Undergraduate

Hamilton Zoo Studentship

The Hamilton Zoo and the Faculty of Science and Engineering at the University of Waikato recognise that they have mutual interests in the education of students and the wider community, about the operation and the role of zoos. To this end, both parties collaborate in providing an opportunity for students of the BSc (Technology) degree to gain work experience at the Zoo. The work experience takes the form of a studentship for an agreed length of time.

Society of Petroleum Engineers (SPE) Scholarship

The specific goals of offering the scholarship are to promote student interest in the application of engineering principles to the ongoing development of the oil and gas industry, provide awareness of the petroleum industry in New Zealand and to encourage students to seek career opportunities in New Zealand within the oil and gas industry. The Scholarship shall be awarded for part-time or full-time study in the field of Engineering in their 3rd or subsequent year at the University of Waikato.

University of Waikato Summer Research Scholarship

Summer Research Scholarships will be offered in specific areas of research approved by the University of Waikato’s Research Committee. Applicants should be currently enrolled in an undergraduate, a final-year honours or a first-year masters degree and are expected to have completed at least three years of undergraduate study.

Brian Perry Charitable Trust Graduate Scholarship

The Brian Perry Charitable Trust Graduate Scholarships are open to applicants who intend to enrol fulltime at the University of Waikato in the first year of a master’s degree in the Faculty of Science and Engineering in the year of tenure.

Broad Memorial Fund

The fund is in memory of Dr John Broad and Philippa Broad who died in the Mount Erebus air disaster. Grants from the Fund will normally be made only to enrolled students who are currently undertaking research towards a Masters or Doctoral thesis in Earth Sciences. Research related to Antarctica has first priority.

Dr Stella Frances Memorial Scholarship

This Department of Conservation and Environment Waikato scholarship is for students in the final year of a masters degree. The Dr Stella Frances Scholarship is available to students studying environmental issues in the Waikato region.

Golden Plover Wetland Research Award

The Golden Plover Wetland Research Award is intended to support a student who is conducting original research into any aspect of the ecology or management of wetland at Masters level at any University in New Zealand.

Hilary Jolly Memorial Scholarship

The Scholarship shall be awarded for full-time study in the field of Freshwater Ecology at masters or doctoral level at the University of Waikato.

Science & Engineering Masters Fees Award

The Award is intended for students enrolling in their first year of a MSc, MSc(Tech) or ME programme commencing in December, March or July. Two rounds of awards are made, one for students starting in December or March, and another for students starting in July.

Whanganui River Enhancement Trust Scholarship

The scholarships are open to students who are enrolled full-time in a Masters thesis, Honours degree or Postgraduate Diploma and undertaking research that is relevant or applicable to the catchment of the Whanganui River.
